Politics is a competition between parties and also a game to outshine, discredit and outsmart others.
Criticism is very normal in politics. it is one of the powerful strategies to unsettled and discredit a ruling party's efforts and achievements. It has it's traditions from the beginning of our democracy.
Present criticism by the APC in Oyo State led me to remember the story of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who established a political party in 1951 called Action Group, the party that introduced Free Education, Free Health Program, construction of the first football stadium in Nigeria and the First Television station in Africa, the party was criticized by then NPC and NNDP; NPC and NNDP the then national party that failed to have any meaningful character or notable project in the western region of the country for so many years.
Chief Bola Ige of blessed memory and the Executive Governor of Oyo State in the second republic (1979-1983) introduced free education and free health services that was criticized by the then opposition in Oyo State but the projects was still a talking point and legacy Nigerians and Oyo State people were proud of all over the world till tomorrow.
Gov. Seyi Makinde is creating history with his visionary projects that will make people of the state and Nigerians talk for so many years to come, it is normal for opposition to criticize him and his projects, so that they can attract unnecessary sympathy from the populace.
Let me remind APC that history didn't remember the critics of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo or Late Chief Bola Ige but remembered and celebrated the achievements of these two legends till tomorrow.
Some sections of public have started seeing APC as enemy of the people of the state and her development.
We must understand and believe that, there's no perfect system or project anywhere in the world but periodical maintenances improves the system and the projects.
Let me advise the Executive Governor and the modern architect of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde to learn from the history of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Uncle Bola Ige and continue with his good projects and close his ears and eyes from the distraction and criticism of the APC and the enemies of Oyo State developments.
The state government should also take periodical maintenance of every projects initiated by the government very serious by providing running cost and special funds for the ministries and agencies that oversee the said projects.
I also wish to remind Oyo State APC that the good people of the state didn't forget about the wastages and corruption the state witness under the Last administration, the 7 billion Naira "truckless" Mokola flyover, failed 4.5 billion naira beautification project and Multi Billion Naira failed International 5 star Hotel project has also made history. I am very sure if the present government failed to ask questions on the above failed projects next generation will surely ask questions.
Lastly, The newly renovated and remodelled Adamasingba stadium is a legacy and a pride to Oyo State people. We appreciate His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde for this wonderful achievement.
I encourage good people of the state to continue to support His Excellency and his government so that he can do more for the people and the state.
May Almighty God continue to bless the state.
