OYO WON’T DELAY PALLIATIVES DISTRIBUTION DESPITE FG’S INFESTED RICE

Despite the 1800 bags of rice donated by the federal government being infested with weevils, the Oyo state government says the situation won’t delay the distribution of palliatives to residents.
The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness, Dr Debo Akande made this revelation on Friday while speaking with journalists in Ibadan.
He explained that the 1,800 bags of rice donated by the Federal Government as palliative via the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development had spoilt and would be returned to the source.
According to him, the goods which were kept at a warehouse was discovered to be infested with weevils during inspection.
He furthered that, in order to be sure of the situation, a committee was formed to reinspect the goods after which the state declared the 1800 bags of rice, inconsumable and would be unfair to distribute them as palliatives to the people of Oyo state.
Dr. Akande said the state government cannot afford to, in the process of trying to provide solution to a problem, create another problem for the people.
He however assured that the distribution of palliatives in the state will begin in the next couple of days.
