SIX MONTHS OF RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AMIDST UNAVOIDABLE CHALLENGES~ OLUYOLE LG CHAIR, HON SETTLE OLAIDE

TO THE OLUYOLEs:

I, SETTLE OLAIDE, your humble servant in Government whom Destiny has called to be the Caretaker Chairman of OLUYOLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT, IDI- AYUNRE having been appointed by His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Oyo State, ENGNR. 'SEYI MAKINDE on the 23rd of December, 2019 write to publicly announce that my term as the Council Chairman has been graciously renewed by His Excellency, GOV. 'SEYI MAKINDE.

As I had promised you on my inauguration on 23rd December, 2019 that "my emergence as the Council Servant is an opportunity to restore the lost values of our dear Local Government"

However,in the last six months of our administration, I have strived to keep up with my good promises to serve you.

My appointment did not come without challenges as expected but I have learnt from the elders of OLUYOLE that " when the going gets tough, the tough get going" .

We did not abscond from the challenges as we have learned from the words of Wiston Churchill that " if you are going through hell,keep going".

I need to state categorically , some of the daring challenges that we faced in the first six months of our administration which are majorly captured under two headings:

Firstly, THE ALGON CRISIS: After a month in office as Council Chairman, on the 26th of January, 2020, the sacked ALGON Chairmen across the 33 LGA and 35LCDA of the state returned to challenge our seat and it was a tough battle but we thank God that he gave us the courage to battle the challenge and we reclaimed the Council from the cankerworm that tried to return to continually milk us dry.

I thank you all for standing by me during the crisis and for supporting our great party, The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP).

Perhaps, we might have crashed along the line but for God and your unwavering support for our Government.

Secondly, On the 28th of February,2020, Nigeria join the rest of the world in the battle against CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) and subsequently, Oyo State confirmed her first case on the 17th of March, 2020.

This became an headache on the part of the Government as government activities became vigorously challenged and thereafter, all Government houses and Secretariats were closed and we began living like strangers over our own land as everyone went on hiding to stay safe but I, your Son kept working from the background even though the council was locked but it was subsequently partially  reopened with a clause from the State Government that "only Senior Officers from Level 13 and above should resume work officially".

All these were strong challenges but it never obstruct our political will to serve your interest as we keep promoting and articulating good governance by meeting your numerous needs even though they are insatiable especially at this trying times.

OUR SCORE CARD IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF OUR ADMINISTRATION

1. Familiarization tour of the Council and inspection of facilities in the Secretariat.

2. Familiarization tour of all security outfits within the Council jurisdiction.

3. On the spot assessment of all Primary Schools and Primary Health Centres of the Council.

4. Familiarization tour of Markets, public places and Industries sited on our Council jurisdiction.

5. Distribution of drugs procured by Hon. 'Sunbo Olugbemi (former Federal Honourable , Oluyole Federal Constituency) .

6. Facilitation and equipping of a sub-office of NIMC (National Identity Card Management) to the Council Secretariat to ease the burden of our people.

7. Grading of 10KM. Of gradable roads across the 5 wards of the council.

8. Purchase of preventive tools against COVID-19 for Local Government workers for use in Offices and for the use of our people (Visitors to the Council).

9. Sensitization and distribution of COVID-19 preventive materials to all major markets in OLUYOLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

10. Distribution of phase one relief package to the most vulnerable households within the council.

11. Procurement of Health kits e.g Nose guards, alcohol based hand sanitizers, hand gloves etc for use in our Health centres for the prevention of CORONA VIRUS.

12. Restoration of Electricity supply to the Council Secretariat which was cut off due to default of payment of PHCN bill by the last administration.

13. Payment of outstanding debt of seven hundred thousand Naira Only  (#700,000) owe by the last administration for ORILE ODO SCHEME.

13. Purchase of Stretcher and other necessary Kit's for Environmental health department..

14. Repair of Council Low Bird Truck

15. Renovation of Chairman's office complex and equipping of Caretaker Members Committee offices

16. Distribution of Phase two palliative for Artisans, Religious Leaders, Private School Owners, Unemployed Youths, Aged, Physically disabled, Political party Members (PDP, APC,ADC, ZLP, Others inclusive).

OUR ONGOING PROJECTS

1. Renovation of OLUYOLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT MARRIAGE REGISTRY to give it a 21st century look.

2. Building of Customary Court in Oluyole Local Government : first of its kind for the usage of our people.

3. Sinking of bore hole at four different places within OLUYOLE local government.

CONCLUSION
As we begin the second phase of our administration, I thank you all for your patience and most importantly, I appreciate His Excellency, GOV. 'SEYI MAKINDE for counting me worthy among those that would be privileged to serve the interest of the people in Government having return me as your Chairman.

We shall do more than you expected as we shall hit the ground running.
