COVID-19: FLATTENING THE CURVE WITH GSM | DEJI OLA

Flattening the curve according to different scholars is a public health strategy to slow down the spread of a particular pandemic.
The curve being flattened is the epidemic curve, a visual representation of the number of infected people demanding health care over time. The higher the curve the higher the load on health facilities and even health workers.

However, it is a known fact that a health care system can break down when the number of people infected exceeds the capacity of such health care system and this will have negative effect on the entire process no matter how smart a government is.

The need to drastically slow down the spread of the pandemic can never be over-emphasized. This way, the peak number of people requiring care at a time is reduced, and the health care system will not exceed its capacity.

Flattening the curve with Governor Seyi Makinde is germane in this critical time and this should be a collective effort from all of us at the Pace Setter state. We should channel our efforts  mainly on mitigation techniques such as social distancing and other non-pharmacautical measures like regular hand washing/use of hand sanitisers, isolation and disinfection.

Interestingly, many stakeholders have started coming out boldly to give kudos to GSM's approach to this pandemic. We are not unaware that " *_In the time of crisis, truth is always the first casualty"_* . But the case is different as stakeholders in the major  opposition party in the state have commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his relentless effort since the outbreak of the novel virus in the state.

Evidently, few weeks ago, Bar. Bayo Shittu, the former Minister of Communication commended GSM for taking proactive steps though some people who I referred to as electronic herdsmen called him different names for speaking the truth. They forgot to realize that this will not in any way change anything since the man has satisfy his conscience.

Little wonder, another rounds of truth were pronounced by Dr. Gbade Ojo who was the Chief of Staff to former Governor Ajimobi regarding GSM's approach to the pandemic, he even educated people extensively on Oyo state loan applications while citing Lagos State as a case study. It is now crystal clear that being in opposition party should not becloud one's sense of judgement. Despite ill-politics being played by their party members, they still deem it fit to say the truth even in the face of intimidation. Posterity will never forget them.

Apparently, Oyo state government is doing wonderfully well to curtail this pandemic and even arrest any possibly future occurrence. Meanwhile, it is important to state that; His excellency must as a matter of urgency intensify more efforts in enforcing all the precautionary measures in the state and also open window for different volunteer groups who will be saddled with the responsibility of enforcing total compliance of all non-pharmacautical strategies earlier explained.

*Its time to activate all machineries to flatten the curve with GSM and not flatten the economy or other Government activities

I and my group shall continue to monitor the progress of our dear state even at this crucial time. We shall not rest till we get the desired result. On the vision/mission of Governor Seyi Makinde, we stand!
