Fake Amotekun Uniforms: Our Suspicion Is Justified - PDP

... says Opposition Playing Politics With Security Of lives, Property In Oyo.

The Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Monday that its suspicion that some members of the opposition parties in the state are behind the plot to give Amotekun a bad name by using some unscrupulous elements to cause mayhem in the state has been justified.

The PDP said that the arrest of some persons responsible for production of fake Amotekun uniforms in Ibadan was a clear indication that opposition elements were playing bad politics    with security of lives and property in Oyo State.

"Suspicion has been rife that certain elements were behind the orchestrated alarm being raised about the operations of Amotekun in Oyo State in the last six weeks of its operation. 

The arrest of the producers of fake Amotekun corps uniforms meant for distribution to hoodlums to cause mayhem in the state with the aim of blackmailing the Makinde- led administration has clearly justified our suspicion that their sponsors have bad politics at the back of their minds," the PDP said in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Engineer Akeem Olatunji.

The PDP maintained that nothing should embolden any resident of the state to venture into such the crime of sewing fake Amotekun corps uniforms just to blackmail the government of the day. "The untamed desperation to discredit the hard-earned reputation of the incumbent administration in Oyo State through illegal activities with the soul aim of wrestling power from Governor Makinde come 2023 is  a near impossible adventure," the PDP said.

The PDP Publicity Secretary, also stated that the ruling party was seriously appalled by the unfolding development of unbridled hunger for power and an untamed despiraion by the opposition in Oyo state, adding that the opposition has been deploying all available means to discredit Governor Seyi Makinde's giant strides in the state.

The statement read: "It was another great achievement for the state and the Amotekun corps to have discovered and apprehend one of the agents of darkness in our dear state who appeared to  have been recruited by opposition the oppositio in Oyo state to heighten insecurity and create an atmosphere of chaos by sewing fake Amotekun uniforms  for distribution to hoodlums. 

"It became clear to us that the foiled and failed agenda is what the opposition has been pursuing since the inception of the Makinde  administration

"It is not news anymore to all residents in Oyo state that the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deployed all forms of evil machinations, treachery, and malicious propaganda against the PDP government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde, since he assumed office as the executive governor.

"In fact, one of their serving Senators once boldly told the world in a show of untamed desperation and hunger for power that the Makinde- led government could not escape all three traps his party had set for him.

"Governor Seyi Makinde has consistently said that the present administration is open to constructive criticism and useful suggestions on ways to make the state a better place for all to live but what we have continued to witness from our opposition in Oyo state is nothing near constructive criticism but deliberate attacks and  orchestrated plots to bring down the government at all costs by using insecurity as a tool.

"How else do we rationalize the shocking development that Amotekun corps which was created to complement mainstream security outfits in Nigeria to provide adequate security for the people of Oyo state was already being sabotaged, or was Amotekun corps created to provide security for PDP members in the state?

"We wish to state categorically for the sake of record, that Governor Seyi Makinde is among the very few Governors who have invested heavily on security since assumption of office. It is also on record that he has invested in the security architecture of the state more than the immediate past APC government despite only been in office as the Executive Governor in less than two years, but since our detractors who have continued to meet shame and disappointments at the end of each executed agenda will neither rest nor desist, we as the party in government will always be at alert and remain unfazed because light will always prevail over darkness.

"Whether  they stop the shenanigans or not, the good people of Oyo state already know them for who they are and what their party represents but we will continue to stay ahead of them and their evil agenda.

"In fact, we are using this opportunity to ask the security agencies to charge some opposition leaders for orchestrating the  production of the  fake Amotekun uniform, and for perpetrating,  aiding and abeting  crime against the people of Oyo State with the aim of creating tension and apprehension within the populace. 

They should be dealt with according to the law.

"God has blown away the I'll wind of untold hardship, hunger, squalor, anger and   modern day slavery perpetrated by the immediate past government in the state which characterized the entire eight years of APC administration in Oyo state.

"With Governor Seyi Makinde now in the saddle the good people of the state can attest to the difference between false propaganda and practical delivery of good governance therefore.

"Therefore,  all attempts by the agents of darkness to return Oyo state to the dark era between (2011-2019) through the back door shall be resisted by the people again and again.

"We urge the good people of Oyo state whose trust in governor Seyi Makinde and the PDP has birthed a new dawn of prosperity and a safe and secured Oyo state to be on alert and continue to support the present government to succeed even more, because it is now clear that these agents of darkness in their desperate hunger for power are waging a war to steal the mandate freely given to governor Makinde who has only the masses as his godfather, at all cost."
