In the drive to take the whole of my local government to the next level. Hosting this summit underscores your recognition, that the primary business of government is law and order. And by government, I mean the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.

I am sure that distinguished members will recall, that five month back we held a similar security summit at which we had the eminent company of the local government leaders and other securities operatives in the state alongside with several stakeholders within the local government.

This very important security summit themed: “OPERATION STAY SAFE” is an important part of the on-going engagements with stakeholders on the security concerns of our local government. This does not mean that these challenges are newly-emergent. What is new, is our approach and determination to contain these threats and protect the lives and property of all Axis. This determination can mostly be seen in the way our security agents in particular have dealt with Criminals and several of the threats in parts of the local government.

Over the last four months, some of Ibadan north east criminal kingpins have been arrested and brought to justice. I think credit must go to the security agencies for this.

A new well policing force themed: “VOLUNTARY POLICING SECTOR (VPS)” will commenced to work and remain critical to the attainment of the internal security objectives within the local government. It’s in furtherance to this that we set out to enhance our operational capacity towards coping with the dynamic of crimes. This informed the procurement within our limited budgetary resources of these operational assets assembled for VPS Commissioning today is the patrol vehicle and motorcycles. These motorcycles will be deployed for real time monitoring of the nooks and crannies of the local government and other vulnerable locations across LG. The patrol vehicles on the other hand will be utilized to strengthen the safer highway patrol scheme.

The police, DSS and other security operatives will enhance effective operational coordination and real time monitoring of situations.

This commissioning represent the first phase of our re-equipment plan and with the effective take off of the voluntary policing sector, we shall sustain our blueprint of modernizing all components of our operations towards addressing any form of threat in our local government”.
