Court Arraigned 98 Suspected Political Thugs From Ibadan For Unlawful Possession Of Arms

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday arraigned 98 men suspected to be political thugs for alleged threats to violence and unlawful possession of firearms. The defendants were brought before Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun on charges of threatening violence, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others. The police prosecutor, Samson Osubu said the defendants committed the offence on January 25 at Itawure along Efon Alaaye Highway between Osun State and Ekiti State border. He said the defendants were armed in public without lawful possession in such a manner as to cause terror. He also alleged that the defendants, while in eleven vehicles, did embark on unlawful procession from Ibadan, Oyo State, heading to Ado-Ekiti for the just-concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary. SAfER: Makinde Leads House-To-House Distribution Of SAfER Packages In Oyo Town

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state on Wednesday flag-off the distribution of SAfER Packages to 200 thousand households in Oyo zone area of the state. Makinde after his speech during the flag-off of the distribution at Hakeem Adeyemi mini stadium in Oyo with his entourage went into the town to distribute the packed food items. He disclosed that households categorized as the poorest of the poor within the state would receive 10kg of rice each and 5kg of beans in a phased distribution process beginning from Thursday. CORONAVIRUS: South Africa Enters Third Wave Of COVID -19

South Africa has officially entered its third wave of coronavirus infections, health authorities said, with rising caseloads and a sluggish vaccine rollout fuelling fears of fresh strain on the health system. Dugbe inferno: Makinde visits scene, says govt will launch emergency fund

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, visited the scene of the fire incident that razed some shops in Dugbe market, Ibadan, on Wednesday. Governor Makinde, who was accompanied by a number of government officials, told the victims and a crowd of sympathisers, who had converged on the location to possibly salvage remnants of their wares, that the state government would launch an emergency fund to address disasters and emergencies. Insecurity: Oyo Govt. Set to Hold Peace Talks with Area Boys, Cult Groups

The Oyo State Government has revealed that it is set to engage in talks with all area boys and cult groups in the State, to foster peace. The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun said this on Thursday, after a closed door meeting with representatives of the militant groups, including Agbekoya, Odua People's Congress, Vigilante Group of Nigeria among others in Ibadan. Olatunbosun said the State government, in collaboration with all the militant groups is determined to proffer peaceful solutions to the unrest between area boys and cult groups, saying the time to end bloodshed in the State is now. Speaking further, Dr. Olatunbosun said the meeting aims to solve the problem from the root, disclosing that the State Government will work closely with security agencies and leaders of the militant groups, to meet with the cult sects and mediate between warring parties in the State. The Oyo State House of Assembly Wednesday approved the appointment of all ten Commissioner designates forwarded to the State Legislature by Governor Seyi Makinde. The list which was submitted to the House on the 22nd of September, 2021 contained names of five returning Commissioners and another five new ones. The Lawmakers while welcoming the Commissioner designates to the hallowed chamber said they were all eminently qualified to serve as Commissioners in the State having been part of the present administration in one way or the other.
